Cinema is always home to highly anticipated films, and as we approach the chiller months, there are still plenty to look forward to. Rouge One: A Star Wars Story and Marvel’s Doctor Strange are just two examples of the movies that many of us can’t wait to watch. Here is my rundown of the films I’m most excited about, and you should be too.

Moonlight 

Release Date: 21st October (US)

I’m always interested in films about the black experience, so I am particularly looking forward to Moonlight. The film chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood, and it has already received excellent reviews. It doesn’t have a UK theatrical release date yet, but it’s one UK movie-goers can keep in mind for the future.

Bleed For This

Release Dates: 4th November (US), 2nd December (UK)

Who doesn’t love a good boxing film? It is the one sport that is consistently depicted brilliantly on-screen. With Miles Teller in the leading role, Bleed for This tells the story of World Champion boxer, Vinny Paziena. He made what is widely considered the greatest comeback in the history of the sport, after experiencing a near-fatal car crash, which many believed would surely end his career.

La La Land 

Release Date: 2nd December (US)

Unfortunately for UK audiences, the musical drama La La Land, won’t be hitting theatres until January 2017, but I’m sure many of us will find ways of watching it before then. The main reasons I’m highly anticipating this film, is because it stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, as well as the fact the film was written and directed by Damian Chazelle, who was at the helm of the excellent, Whiplash (2014). I don’t usually watch musicals, but on this occasion I’m making an exception for La La Land. 

Lion

Release Date: 25th November (US)

This film is a depiction of the the real-life story of Saroo Brierley, who was separated from his family when he was a young boy, and adopted by an Australian couple. Dev Patel portrays Saroo who sets out to find his lost family. I have always enjoyed epic adventures of self-discovery, and Dev Patel is pretty good actor, already having proven he can carry a film of this calibre in Slumdog Millionaire (2008). However, Lion doesn’t have a UK theatrical release date yet, but if you live in the UK and are eager to see it on the big screen, it will be showing at the London Film festival in October.

Nocturnal Animals

Release Dates: 4th November 2016 (UK), 23rd November (US)

The trailer for Nocturnal Animals is one of the best trailers I’ve seen in a long time. Most trailers these days give away too much, practically telling us the whole plot, but Tom Ford’s film reveals just the right amount of information. The film is a dark thriller about estranged lovers, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams in the lead roles.
