If you (like me) can’t get enough of badass women in film, here are five female characters who could take out of even the most menacing villains. There are plenty of strong female protagonists to choose from, but I’ve gone for the most iconic and memorable.
Here are my top five picks:
Sarah Connor, Terminator 2: Judgement Day
If you haven’t seen Terminator 2: Judgment Day, then I must ask why the hell not? In my opinion, it’s one of the greatest actions films ever made. It just so happens to feature my personal favourite movie heroine, Sarah Connor. She first appears in The Terminator as an innocent ‘damsel in distress’ character.
In the sequel, she transforms into a physically imposing, warrior-like woman. Linda Hamilton is incredible in the role, which no actress playing Sarah Connor has managed to replicate since.
Ellen Ripley, Aliens
It would be criminal to make a list of badass women, without including Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. She is arguably the most iconic action heroine of all time. Just like Sarah Connor, she transforms from the passive civilian of Alien to full-on survivalist warrior in Aliens. She’s overall a great character.
The Bride, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2
Quentin Tarantino never creates straightforward characters that have their morals intact. The same goes for the revenge-seeking assassin in the Kill Bill films, played by Uma Thurman. Her character has so many exciting and very violent moments. Offering thrills and sword-slicing action, Thurman’s character is no doubt a lethal on-screen lady.
Trinity, The Matrix Trilogy
Of course, Neo is the main hero of The Matrix movies, but it’s Trinity who helps bring him out of the dream-world. Neo started out as just an average guy, whereas Trinity kicked ass from the beginning. The sequels were poor, but let’s not forget how good the first film was, with Trinity at the heart of it, donning that leather outfit and pulling off impossible feats.
Rey, Stars Wars: The Force Awakens
Daisy Ridley’s Rey is a relatively new character, having made her debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She’s a resilient scavenger, toughened by life on a harsh desert planet. Fierce and driven, it’s clear the new trilogy will be her story, in the same way, the originals were Luke’s. I’m looking forward to seeing what the new Star Wars films have in store for the character.
Whether they’re fighting aliens or leading a rebellion, there is a wide range of powerful females in film. Let’s hope there’s plenty more to come.
Who is your favourite female movie heroine? Let me know in the comments!
Very nice list! Well done!

Nice list! Can’t argue much with it, though I think I’d probably put Rita Vrataski (Edge of Tomorrow) in before Rey, although that may change with The Last Jedi. I’m curious to know where the new Wonder Woman would place now that her movie came out. Personally, I might go so far as to place her at #1 after seeing the movie!

Thanks. Yeah I guess Wonder Woman would earn a place on here, though I haven’t seen the film yet. But I’ve only heard good things about it

It’s incredible. I was skeptical given how much Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad disappointed, but honestly, I think I have a new favorite superhero movie. Wonder Woman blew me away.
